In general throughout the Congo river evaporation levels are high throughout the basin with only the south eastern extremes having reduced levels of evaporation during the period July to October. The reduction in rainfall for this period is the likely cause. There is a high amount of inter annual variability as temperature and water availability are the drivers of evaporation. Indeed evaporation over this large basin acts as a feedback system where evaporated water returns as rainfall, augmenting input from oceanic low-pressure areas.
