The Indus basin is an arid region with low actual evaporation due to the little rainfall received in the basin. This is clear in the months October to February when throughout the basin evaporation levels are very low. In April a transition period is starting and higher evaporation levels are seen through until September. This is consistent with increased soil moisture and run off during these months as water is entering the river system through snow melt and rainfall in the upper headwaters of the river.
