Runoff in the Mekong for the moths July to October is at its highest, from November it decreases steadily through to March. In April/May a slight rise is observable in the estimates of runoff. The period May to October is when the highest rainfall occurs in this region and this is an important driver of runoff estimates in the basin. The river ends in a large delta which, during the dry season, is subject to tidal inundation as the sea water protrudes up river at high tide during this period of low flow.
