Danube River Basin Rainfall for February 1985 - 1999

The majority of the basin receives low rainfall amounts. However the river’s source in the mountainous Alpine region and numerous tributaries feeding it form the Alps means the snow and glacier melt plays an important role in the hydrology of the basin system. The timing of the snow melt is sensitive to climate change and indeed some studies have shown for the Alpine region snow melt is occurring earlier and this can influence the occurrence of droughts in the summer months.
